Walt Disney World News Roundup | August 30, 2026
Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge Opens July 1, 2027—and Yes, It Has a Lazy River
Disney has given us our biggest look yet at Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge, the new Bay Lake resort opening July 1, 2027. It will have 967 accommodations ranging from small studios for two to three-bedroom Grand Villas, along with waterfront A-frame Lake Houses that appear to have been designed specifically to make me abandon all reasonable budgeting.
The resort will also feature a lazy river, multiple pools, new restaurants and lounges, Magic Kingdom fireworks views and boat transportation to Magic Kingdom. Cash reservations open October 6 for Disney Vacation Club Members, October 7 for Annual Passholders and October 8 for everyone else. Disney has not yet released room rates, DVC points charts or a date for booking with Vacation Points.
From a planning perspective, this looks more like a destination resort than somewhere to tumble into bed after seven consecutive rope drops. The pools and recreation need time in the itinerary, while the resort’s size, transportation distances and eventual prices are all worth considering before falling completely in love with a Lake House. My heart has already booked one. My wallet remains unaware.
Our 2026 EPCOT Food & Wine Map Got an Opening-Weekend Update
The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival is officially underway, and we have updated both our Flower & Garden Festival guide and our printable map with the opening-weekend details that can make a festival day considerably easier. Along with every marketplace, later-opening booth and Emile’s Fromage Montage stop, the map now includes PhotoPass locations, indoor and outdoor seating, and those wonderfully useful fence tables where you can set down your snack for a minute.
Because balancing a drink, a tiny festival plate and a fork while searching for somewhere to eat is not the kind of EPCOT scavenger hunt anyone requested. Use our updated 2026 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival map to find what is nearby, plan a route with fewer unnecessary laps around World Showcase and, ideally, eat your cheese somewhere comfortable.
Halloween Horror Nights 35 Is Officially Making Orlando Scream
Halloween Horror Nights 35 opened at Universal Studios Florida on August 28, and the first weekend gave us a much better idea of what guests can expect. Early house favorites include Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness, Hellraiser, Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control, H.R. Bloodengutz and the surprisingly intense Cybergoria. Opening weekend also proved that the new 2:00 p.m. Stay & Scream process can provide a very big head start—but plenty of other guests have noticed that too. Some queues began forming around 1:00 p.m., so “early” may need to become “slightly ridiculous but potentially worthwhile.” Our new HHN 35 map shows the house locations, scare zones and color-coded early opening times to help you create a plan before the screaming begins.
Dark Arts Return to the Wizarding World
HHN 35’s opening weekend brought more than haunted houses and scare zones to Universal Studios Florida. The Death Eaters have also returned to Diagon Alley, where they roam the streets and search for guests willing to pledge their loyalty to Lord Voldemort during HHN event nights. Regular daytime guests may catch a brief glimpse of them before the park closes on those dates, but an HHN ticket is required to see them during the event.
Meanwhile, Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle returns to Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure for the first time since 2022. The nighttime projection show will be presented on select nights from September 5 through November 1 and is separate from HHN. A Few Quick Planning Updates
A few smaller planning updates arrived this week, and two of the three involve food, so we are already off to a promising start. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party dining reservations open September 3 for Disney Resort guests and September 9 for everyone else, including party dining and fireworks dessert parties. Over at Universal, Dufftoberfest has begun in Springfield with seasonal Duff beer and Oktoberfest-inspired décor through November 1. Finally, reservations are now open for the new Shiki-Sai Fireworks Dining Package, which pairs a Japanese dinner with views of Luminous from EPCOT’s Japan pavilion.

2026 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival Menus Are Here
The menus are out for the 2026 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, and this year’s lineup is a big one. In celebration of the festival’s 30th anniversary, Disney is bringing back or reimagining 30 dishes from years past alongside plenty of new bites and drinks across more than 35 festival food locations.
A few marketplaces will join the festival later in the season, including Festival Favorites, The Wedge Hosted by Dairy Does More, Coastal Eats, India, The Alps, and Earth Eats, so be sure to check opening dates before planning your must-eats.

🧚♀️Wine & Dine Planning Note: If you’re visiting EPCOT during Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, keep an eye on park hours. EPCOT is currently scheduled to open at 10:00 a.m. on October 23 and October 25, an hour later than usual, so factor that into your festival and dining plans.
Halloween Horror Nights 35 Opens This Week at Universal Orlando
The fog is almost here! Halloween Horror Nights 35 officially kicks off at Universal Studios Florida this week, with Premium Scream Night on August 27 and the regular event beginning August 28. This year’s anniversary event brings 10 haunted houses, four scare zones, two live shows, HamiKuma’s first Orlando meet-and-greet, returning Death Eaters in Diagon Alley, and a connected Chaos vs. Control storyline led by Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow.
One of the biggest changes for 2026 is the expanded Stay & Scream strategy, with select houses potentially opening as early as 2:00 p.m. for eligible guests. MNSSHP 2026 Is Selling Fast, But Is It Worth It This Year?
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is well underway, and tickets are disappearing quickly. As of August 24, 20 of the 38 party nights have sold out, with August 25, August 28, September 18, and October 16 joining the sold-out list most recently. That leaves just August 30 still available this month, along with a selection of September and October dates.
But with tickets continuing to sell despite few major changes to the party, there’s another conversation happening this year: does MNSSHP still feel worth the price for returning guests? The core party remains strong, with Boo-to-You, Hocus Pocus, Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular, trick-or-treating, rare characters, and plenty of Halloween atmosphere. Disney has also added some fun smaller touches for 2026, but there isn’t a brand-new parade, fireworks show, or other major headliner dramatically changing the experience. That has left some longtime attendees feeling that the party is still very good, just increasingly familiar at a higher price point.
Our take? First-time MNSSHP guests still have a lot to be excited about. For repeat visitors, especially those who attended recently, the better question may be whether the returning favorites and smaller 2026 additions are enough to justify another separate-ticket night this year.

Disney Expands Airport Luggage Transfer to Caribbean Beach Resort
Disney’s Airport Luggage Transfer service just got a little more useful. As of August 18, 2026, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort has joined the program, making it the first Moderate Resort to offer the service alongside Pop Century, Art of Animation, and the All-Star Resorts.
Eligible guests flying American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, or United Airlines can use the service to transfer checked luggage between Orlando International Airport and their Disney Resort hotel, potentially skipping baggage claim on arrival and luggage check-in at the airport on departure.

D23 Weekend Brought a LOT of Disney News
D23 weekend gave Disney fans plenty to talk about, with new details for Monstropolis, Villains Land, Piston Peak, Tropical Americas, Carousel of Progress, and more, along with future promises involving Spaceship Earth, Figment and Dreamfinder, and Expedition Everest.
Some announcements came with genuinely useful new details, while others were much more of a “yes, this is coming someday” variety.

Universal Nights Is Coming to Epic Universe This October
Universal Nights, a brand-new limited-capacity after-hours event coming to Epic Universe on October 3 and October 17, 2026. The event runs from 9 PM to midnight, with event guests able to enter Epic Universe beginning at 7 PM. Tickets are now on sale.
Universal Nights will include after-hours access to attractions throughout Epic Universe, special entertainment and character appearances, plus complimentary specialty snacks and beverages. Tickets start at $179.99 plus tax per person.
🧚♀️ Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Guests can enter two hours before the official event begins, which means you can squeeze in some regular park time and catch Universal Celestial Goodnight before the after-hours fun gets started.

It’s the End of the Road for Fast & Furious – Supercharged
After eight years at Universal Studios Florida, Fast & Furious – Supercharged officially gave its final rides on August 16, 2026. The attraction is now permanently closed.
Universal had previously announced the closure, but the finish line arrived a little sooner than originally expected. While Supercharged was never exactly the most beloved attraction in the park, its departure leaves another piece of Universal Studios Florida ready for whatever comes next.

MNSSHP 2026 Kicks Off with Opening-Weekend Surprises
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party returned to Magic Kingdom on August 7, bringing new entertainment, returning favorites, and several surprises that were not individually listed on Disney’s official party map. Opening-night guests spotted Haunted Mansion residents along the Market Street Welcome trail, Pirate Goofy inside Mickey’s PhilharMagic, the return of Maleficent and the Evil Queen inside Princess Fairytale Hall, and intermittent appearances by the Hitchhiking Ghosts at Diamond Horseshoe.
Powerline Max also returned in a different format, making pop-up appearances around the park instead of leading a Main Street pre-parade. Captain Jack’s Buccaneer Bash featured changing performances throughout the night, including swordplay, juggling, stunts, and a surprise appearance by Captain Barbossa.

New EPCOT Food & Wine Festival Details Released for 2026
Disney has served up another round of details for the 2026 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, running August 27 through November 21. Emile’s Fromage Montage and Remy’s Ratatouille Hide & Squeak are officially returning, along with new and returning festival merchandise and PhotoPass Magic Shots.
Disney also previewed three returning marketplace dishes, including the Street Corn-style Dumplings from Gyozas of the Galaxy, and confirmed that some Global Marketplaces will open later in the festival. Beginning September 18, guests can also explore “Cheers to Cheese!,” a new interactive exhibit inside CommuniCore Hall celebrating the history and fun of everyone’s favorite dairy delight.

Disney Shares New Lakeshore Lodge Dining and Resort Details
Disney has revealed a new look inside Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge, the nature-inspired resort scheduled to open along Bay Lake in summer 2027.
The resort’s lobby will feature floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking The Wetlands recreation area, along with a glowing fiber-optic river and a suspended glass “Colors of the Wind” sculpture inspired by Pocahontas.
Disney also announced three dining locations. Moonglade will offer seasonal dishes in a waterfront table-service setting, Bay Lake Provisions will serve specialty coffee and fresh fare throughout the day, and Paint Out Point Bar & Grill will offer shareable bites and specialty drinks near the pool.
After dark, guests will be able to visit Dandelion Terrace, a two-story lounge featuring artwork inspired by Disney classics and views of the Magic Kingdom fireworks across Bay Lake.
Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge is expected to include 967 guestrooms, ranging from studios and suites to one- and two-bedroom Lake Houses. Reservations and pricing have not yet been announced.

Six Ravens Soft-Opens at Disney Springs
Six Ravens, the new savory dining concept from the team behind Gideon’s Bakehouse, began welcoming guests during a soft opening at Disney Springs on August 3.
Located in The Landing just a few doors down from Gideon’s, Six Ravens specializes in “Coffyns,” house-made yeast rolls filled with savory sandwich ingredients. The current menu includes six varieties priced at $10.96 each, with choices ranging from a cheeseburger Coffyn and pesto chicken to pulled pork mac and cheese, chicken coconut curry, grilled cheese and a roasted sweet potato and black bean option. Each one comes with its own dipping sauce.
Guests can also order smashed potatoes, a Gideon’s chocolate chip cookie tart with chocolate fudge and raspberry jam, house-made root beer and a selection of local Florida beers and cider. Because Six Ravens is still in its soft-opening period, hours, menu availability and operating procedures may change as the team settles in.
New Diamond Horseshoe Food and Drink Pop-Up Coming to Magic Kingdom
A new limited-time dining experience is coming to the Diamond Horseshoe at Magic Kingdom this fall. Instead of its former family-style meal, the historic venue will offer small plates and specialty drinks in its Old West saloon setting.
Disney has previewed a charcuterie board featuring cured beef, “fancy bacon,” smoked pork, green chile cheese, smoked cheddar and pickles. Drink options will include a nonalcoholic Enchanting Ember Lemonade made with strawberry, hot honey and a chili-lime rim, along with a Cactus Rose Margarita featuring tequila, prickly pear, lime and agave.
Disney has not yet announced the opening date, complete menu or when reservations will become available. Walk-ups will also be welcomed. Guests looking for the familiar family-style Thanksgiving-inspired meal can still find it next door at Liberty Tree Tavern.

Ozzy Osbourne's Legacy Lives On at HHN 35
One of the most talked-about announcements of the week is also one of the most unexpected. Universal Orlando has revealed Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness, the tenth and final haunted house coming to Halloween Horror Nights 35. Created in collaboration with the Osbourne family, the house will take guests on a journey through Ozzy's legendary career with scenes inspired by his music, iconic album imagery, and larger-than-life theatrical sets. Rather than simply adapting a movie or TV series, Universal is celebrating the legacy of one of rock's most influential performers in a way that feels especially fitting during HHN's 35th anniversary season.
Fortnite Invades Halloween Horror Nights
Halloween Horror Nights is getting a gaming twist this year with the addition of FORTNITEMARES, an all-new scare zone inspired by Fortnite's annual Halloween event. Guests will venture into Freaky Fields, where they'll encounter the iconic Battle Bus, familiar Fortnitemares creatures, and exclusive characters created just for HHN. Even if you've never played Fortnite, the scare zone looks like it will add another immersive layer to this year's event, while longtime fans of the game will likely spot plenty of recognizable details and Easter eggs.
More Street Entertainment Announced for HHN 35
Universal isn't just expanding the haunted house lineup—it's adding even more energy to the streets. This week the resort confirmed the return of Mel's D-I-E IN, where zombie carhops once again take over Mel's Drive-In, along with the roaming Chainsaw Horde, famous for catching unsuspecting guests off guard throughout the park. Guests can also look forward to the all-new Club Horror, transforming the San Francisco area into an undead dance party complete with a zombie DJ, music, lighting effects, and roaming monsters. These additions join the previously announced Nightmare Fuel: Blood Noir stage show and Stranger Things: Return to Hawkins lagoon spectacular, making HHN 35's entertainment lineup one of the most robust in recent years.

Typhoon Lagoon Announces Seasonal Closing Date
If you're planning a fall Walt Disney World vacation and hoping to spend a day at Disney's water parks, take note! Disney has announced that Typhoon Lagoon will close for its annual seasonal refurbishment beginning September 9, 2026.
As in previous years, Blizzard Beach is expected to remain open while Typhoon Lagoon receives its routine maintenance, giving guests a water park option throughout the refurbishment period.
If a water park day is part of your vacation plans—especially if you're taking advantage of Disney Resort guests' complimentary water park admission on arrival day—it's a good idea to check which park will be operating during your visit.

Disney Cruise Line Secures Icy Strait Point Visits Through 2041
Disney Cruise Line is making a long-term commitment to Alaska. DCL has signed a new 15-year agreement with Huna Totem Corporation that gives Disney ships preferential weekly docking access at Icy Strait Point through at least 2041. The agreement comes as Disney has expanded its Alaska offerings in 2026, with both the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder sailing select Alaska itineraries.
We had the chance to visit Icy Strait Point aboard the Disney Magic this summer, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our Alaska cruise. Our small-boat whale-watching excursion gave us incredible views of humpback whales, porpoises, and eagles, with even orcas spotted nearby.

Halloween Horror Nights 35 Adds Evil Dead Burn + Multi-Night Passes
Halloween Horror Nights 35 is getting closer, and Universal Orlando dropped another round of updates this week, including a new haunted house and the release of multi-night tickets.
Evil Dead Burn is now the ninth confirmed haunted house for HHN 35, bringing the lineup one step closer to completion with just one house still waiting to be revealed. The newest addition brings the Evil Dead franchise back to Halloween Horror Nights with plenty of Deadites, gore, and the franchise's signature over-the-top horror.
Universal has also released its 2026 multi-night HHN passes, including Rush of Fear, Frequent Fear, Frequent Fear Plus, and Ultimate Frequent Fear. One important change this year: the former Fear Pass + Express bundles are gone. Guests who want Express will need to purchase it separately for each event night.

Back to Hogwarts Returns to Universal Orlando for 2026
Wands at the ready! Back to Hogwarts is returning to Universal Orlando Resort from August 1 through September 1, 2026, with this year’s celebration marking the 25th anniversary of the first Harry Potter film.
Guests can look for limited-time food and beverage offerings, special 25th anniversary merchandise, a commemorative Butterbeer mug while supplies last, and the return of the Hogwarts Always nighttime projection show at Hogwarts Castle in Hogsmeade.

The Untrainable Dragon at Epic Universe is scheduled to temporarily close for refurbishment in September 2026. The live stage show in How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk features large-scale sets, puppetry, aerial performers, and some pretty impressive mechanical effects, so we'll be watching to see if the downtime brings any noticeable changes when the show returns.
We’re particularly interested in this refurbishment after our own experiences with the show. We attempted to see The Untrainable Dragon during two different Epic Universe visits, roughly six months apart, and both times mechanical elements of the show failed and the performance was ultimately canceled. Despite two tries, we still haven't managed to see the entire show!
Universal has not indicated that those technical issues are related to the scheduled refurbishment, but we're hopeful the downtime will give the team an opportunity to work out some of the kinks along with any routine maintenance.
