It’s baaaaack! Halloween Horror Nights 2026 is here at Universal Orlando Resort, and this year has shapped up to be a BIG one.
With 2026 marking the 35th anniversary of Halloween Horror Nights, Universal leaned hard into HHN lore, returning icons, and original storytelling in a way longtime fans are VERY excited about.
Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow have both returned, with HHN 35 weaving a twisted carnival-style Chaos vs. Control storyline throughout the event, making this one of the most story-driven events we have seen in a long time.
The screams abound, but so does the mythos. Whether you’re a die-hard horror fan or just here for the themed snacks and jump scares, this guide will help you plan your HHN visit from start to finish.

Opening Weekend Update — August 29, 2026
Halloween Horror Nights 35 is officially underway, and we now have our first look at how the event is operating. Early house favorites include Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness, Hellraiser, Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control, H.R. Bloodengutz and the surprisingly intense Cybergoria.
The new 2:00 p.m. Stay & Scream process can give guests a substantial head start, but popular queues began forming as early as 1:00 p.m. on opening day, and several houses reached capacity before the official event began. We have updated the house reviews, opening times, showtimes and planning advice below with what guests experienced during opening weekend.
Stay & Scream queues can reach capacity before 6:30 p.m. be aware that a 2:00 p.m. opening does not mean guests arriving at 4:00 or 5:00 will necessarily walk straight into those houses. Posted early-entry waits have also sometimes been considerably higher than actual waits.
As always, house rankings and wait patterns can change as scareactors settle into their roles and Universal adjusts operations throughout the season.

Halloween Horror Nights 35 is more than just another annual event, it's an anniversary celebration where Universal is bringing back fan favorites and weaving them into a larger story of Chaos vs Control. A shared carnival atmosphere is interweaving the different aspects of HHN in a way we haven't seen before. If you’re newer to Halloween Horror Nights, don’t worry—you absolutely do NOT need to know all the HHN lore to enjoy the event. But for longtime fans this anniversary year already feels a little more personal.

Tickets for Halloween Horror Nights 35 are now officially on sale, with pricing varying by date.
New for 2026: Universal has discontinued all Fear Pass + Express Pass bundles. Guests purchasing Rush of Fear, Frequent Fear, Frequent Fear Plus, or Ultimate Frequent Fear passes can still purchase Express Passes—but they must now be bought separately for each event night.

Stay & Scream (Get a Head Start on HHN)
One of the biggest advantages at Halloween Horror Nights is taking advantage of Stay & Scream, which lets eligible guests remain inside Universal Studios Florida as the park transitions from regular daytime operations to HHN.
For HHN 35, Universal has made that head start even more valuable, with select haunted houses beginning to open as early as 2:00 p.m.
There are two ways to take advantage of Stay & Scream:
Already have daytime park admission? Pick up an HHN wristband, remain inside Universal Studios Florida, and head to one of the designated Stay & Scream areas.
Don't have daytime park admission? A separate Scream Early ticket allows you to enter Universal Studios Florida beginning at 2:00 p.m. and join the early-entry process before HHN officially begins.
How Early Can You Start Going Through Houses?
For HHN 35, Stay & Scream operates more like an extended early-entry period than the traditional holding-area system. Eligible guests receive a wristband and can join individual house queues as they open throughout the afternoon.
On opening night, the schedule was:
2:00 p.m.: Stranger Things 5, Jack & Oddfellow and Hellraiser
Queues began forming at 1:00 p.m.
5:15 p.m.: Sinners and Ozzy Osbourne
5:45 p.m.: H.R. Bloodengutz, Evil Dead Burn and Cybergoria
6:00 p.m.: INVASION and MADLANDS
6:30 p.m.: Official event start
These times can change, and technical delays are possible. Hellraiser, for example, did not begin admitting guests until approximately 2:30 p.m. on opening day. Check the Universal Orlando app and in-park signs before committing to a specific plan. The published opening schedule is available here.
🧚♀️ Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Posted early-entry waits may be padded while Universal adjusts the queues. On opening night, guests reported waiting considerably less than the posted times for both Stranger Things 5 and Hellraiser. That is encouraging, but it is not something we would count on every night.

All 10 Haunted Houses for Halloween Horror Nights 35
House #1 Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control
HHN 35 is bringing together two of Halloween Horror Nights' most iconic original characters. According to Universal, guests will step into a twisted carnival where Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow battle for control, unleashing their own brands of chaos and terror.
Jack the Clown, representing chaos, is the event's original icon, appearing for the first time for HHN 10, and arising again multiple times throughout the history of HHN. His twisted white clown-face make-up, yellow eyes, and green-tinged mouth is one of the most recognizable faces of the event.
Dr. Oddfellow, another fan favorite, is a manipulative ringmaster of the Carnival of Carnage a dark sorcerer and first the boss, then the murderer of Jack Schmidt, AKA Jack the Clown.
The Chaos & Control house will explore the shared history of this duo, showing their origins and tying together their journeys throughout HHN.
The house appears to play a major role in this year's overall event storyline, tying the entire event together in a way we have not previously seen.
House #2 Sinners – Club Juke
Universal's second haunted house is inspired by the Oscar-winning horror film Sinners. Guests will enter Club Juke, where they'll come face-to-face with the film's vampires and other terrifying characters while fighting to survive until sunrise.
This house will be featured at both Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood, making it one of the biggest licensed IP announcements of the season.
House #3: Stranger Things 5
June 17, 2026 Universal announced an all-new Stranger Things 5 haunted house based on the fifth and final season of the hit Netflix series, bringing back one of Halloween Horror Nights' most popular franchises for another year
Guests will journey through familiar locations including the Wheeler House, Hawkins National Laboratory, the Upside Down, and the mysterious Abyss while encountering Vecna, Demogorgons, and other terrifying creatures from the series' epic conclusion. The house will debut at both Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood.
House #4: MADLANDS: Caged Cannibals
Universal has announced another original house for Halloween Horror Nights 35, and this one sounds intense. MADLANDS: Caged Cannibals drops guests into a post-apocalyptic world where almost all life has disappeared, forcing humans to hunt each other to survive.
The house is set in the ruins of an old zoo, where a tribe of cannibals has taken over and guests quickly become the prey. Between the abandoned zoo setting, animalistic hunters, and Universal teasing this as one of the more aggressive houses of the season, this one is definitely going on our “brace yourself” list. (That's a hard nope from me!)
House #5: H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular
Fan favorite horror host H.R. Bloodengutz is back for one last terrifying broadcast! Fifteen years after his infamous Halloween Horror Nights debut, the escaped television host returns to the abandoned WKNB station to unleash a late-night scare-a-thon filled with monsters, gore, and the twisted B-movie horrors that made him a cult favorite. MWAHAHAHA! If you love classic creature features with a campy HHN twist, this one looks like it will be a must-see.
House #6: Cybergoria
Thousands of years in the future, humanity has awakened to a nightmare. In this futuristic sci-fi haunted house, machines that were created to make humans immortal have instead begun harvesting their flesh and replacing it with synthetic parts. Expect a chilling blend of cyberpunk aesthetics, artificial intelligence gone wrong, and body horror unlike anything else at Halloween Horror Nights this year.
House #7: INVASION: Alien Abduction
Universal continues to lean into the Sci-Fi horror theme. The truth is out there...and it's coming for you. Set at a remote rural homestead, INVASION: Alien Abduction drops guests into the middle of an extraterrestrial attack as a ship full of Grays descends in search of fresh human test subjects. With mysterious lights, terrifying encounters, and nowhere to hide, this original house promises a suspense-filled journey into classic alien horror.
House: #8 Hellraiser
One of horror's most iconic franchises is finally coming to Halloween Horror Nights. Inspired by the first three Hellraiser films, this haunted house will take guests through unforgettable locations like Frank Cotton's attic, the Channard Institute, and the Labyrinth, where Pinhead and the Cenobites await. Even better, Doug Bradley returns to provide new voice work as Pinhead, making this a dream announcement for longtime horror fans, or so college boy has informed us.
House #9: Evil Dead Burn
The Evil Dead franchise is returning to Halloween Horror Nights with an all-new haunted house inspired by the latest film, Evil Dead Burn. Guests will step inside a seemingly ordinary apartment building that quickly descends into pure nightmare as Deadites take over floor by floor. Expect plenty of chainsaws, possessed victims, buckets of fake blood, and the over-the-top gore the Evil Dead series is famous for. The Evil Dead films have become Halloween Horror Nights favorites over the years, but this latest chapter trades isolated cabins for a claustrophobic urban setting where there's nowhere to run.
House #10: Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness
This one is exciting, friends. Here's the sitch, Universal has worked directly with the Osbourne family to create this experience, with scenes inspired by the late Ozzy Osbourne's music, featuring classic imagery from his albums and larger than life theatrical sets. It's one of the most unique licensed houses Universal has ever attempted, an ode to both his influence on horror culture and heavy metal's long relationship with Halloween. It is a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, journeying through the different eras of his career. (Slightly different vibe than the Eras tour, to be sure)

Haunted House Rankings & Fan Favorites
Halloween Horror Nights has only been open for a few nights, so consider these early impressions rather than final rankings. The scareactors you encounter, the timing of your walkthrough and even where you fall in the line can completely change how a house feels.

The Early Frontrunners
Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness
Ozzy is one of the most consistent opening-weekend favorites. Reviewers have praised the variety of environments, music, water effects and increasingly elaborate journey toward the throne-room finale. It seems to work as both a tribute to Ozzy and a theatrical haunted house, even for guests who are only casually familiar with his music.
Hellraiser
If you are looking for the scariest house, Hellraiser should be near the top of your list. Guests walk into the maze-like Lament Configuration while Cenobites attack from multiple directions. It is long, gory and intense, with clever sight lines and enough visual storytelling that you do not need to know the original movies to understand what is happening.
Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control
This is the house for guests invested in Halloween Horror Nights history. Colorful oversized sets, funhouse effects, a spinning tunnel and a slanted floor make it one of the most visually distinctive houses of the year. Early reviews are slightly divided over whether the ending delivers the promised showdown, but it remains one of the event’s signature experiences.
H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular
Bloodengutz is emerging as the fun house of HHN 35. It combines campy horror-movie vignettes, Halloween callbacks and some surprisingly effective scares. Longtime HHN fans will catch more of the references, but newcomers can still enjoy the ridiculous B-movie mayhem. Look for the interactive red button near the beginning.
Cybergoria
Cybergoria may be the biggest opening-weekend surprise. Several early guests have called it one of the most intense and frightening houses, with aggressive scares, graphic body horror and memorable machine-creature costumes. The industrial laboratory setting can become somewhat repetitive, but the energy of the scareactors appears to be carrying it.
More Mixed Early Reactions
Sinners
The scenic design, music and Club Juke setting have been praised, particularly by fans of the film. The challenge is that the movie’s atmosphere, themes and slow-building tension do not translate perfectly into a continuous stream of jump scares. It is still worth seeing if you love the movie, but it has not become the runaway favorite some expected.
Stranger Things 5
Stranger Things fans will appreciate stepping into familiar locations and seeing the final season brought to life on a large scale. Other guests have found it less frightening and more dependent on knowledge of the show. The early consensus is that it is impressive as a franchise experience but not necessarily one of the strongest horror houses.
Evil Dead Burn
This one is particularly dependent on the walkthrough. Some guests have praised its intensity, gore and creature puppetry, while others think the single-house setting makes the scenes run together. Fans of the newest Evil Dead film will probably get more from it than casual visitors.
MADLANDS: Caged Cannibals
MADLANDS is producing some of the widest differences in opinion. Its ruined-zoo environments and animal-inspired cannibal factions have impressed some guests, while others found the story repetitive or encountered an understaffed walkthrough. This could rise as the cast settles into the house.
INVASION: Alien Abduction
INVASION has a fun premise, grisly alien experiments and several memorable creature effects. The most common criticism is that the same basic alien attack repeats too often. It may be worth prioritizing for classic sci-fi horror fans, but it is appearing near the bottom of several early rankings.

Scare Zones & Street Experiences
One of the things that makes Halloween Horror Nights different from a traditional haunted attraction is that the scares don't stop when you leave the houses. Throughout Universal Studios Florida, themed scare zones transform the streets into immersive environments filled with roaming scareactors, elaborate sets, lighting, music, and special effects. You'll encounter everything from twisted carnivals and creepy clowns to chainsaw-wielding maniacs as you make your way from one haunted house to the next.

HHN 35 Scare Zones
FORTNITEMARES
Location: (Central Park)
One of the biggest surprises for HHN 35 is the arrival of FORTNITEMARES, inspired by Fortnite's annual in-game Halloween event. The Battle Bus has crash-landed in Freaky Fields, bringing familiar monsters, eerie landscapes, and characters straight from the world of Fortnite into Universal Studios Florida. Even if you've never played the game, this scare zone promises plenty of spooky atmosphere, impressive set pieces, and interactive moments. Fortnite fans, however, will likely spot lots of recognizable details, Easter eggs, and references woven throughout the experience, making this one of the most unique additions to this year's event.
Infernal Carnival of Nightmares
Location: (Production Central)
Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow welcome guests into HHN 35's central "Chaos vs. Control" storyline in this twisted carnival-inspired scare zone. Expect sinister circus performers, unsettling midway attractions, and plenty of opportunities for Jack's signature brand of mayhem. This appears to be the heart of this year's anniversary story, making it one of the first places you'll want to explore.
Sideshow of Decay
Location: (Hollywood)
The carnival continues in Hollywood, where forgotten HHN icon Cindy Caine resurrects long-lost legends from Halloween Horror Nights' past. This eerie sideshow is filled with decaying performers, creepy carnival atmosphere, and nods longtime HHN fans will love discovering. If you're a fan of HHN lore, keep your eyes open—you never know who might make a return appearance.
Downtown Clowntown
Location: (New York)
The streets of New York have been overrun by clowns...and not the friendly kind! Downtown Clowntown brings together the Killer Klowns from Outer Space alongside Art the Clown and other terrifying circus-inspired characters. Expect plenty of laughs, screams, and chaotic clown encounters as these iconic horror favorites take over the city.
HHN 35 Street Entertainment
Club Horror
Location (San Francisco)
New for Halloween Horror Nights 35, Club Horror transforms the San Francisco area of Universal Studios Florida into an undead dance party. Hosted by a zombie DJ, this high-energy street experience combines pulsing music, dramatic lighting, roaming monsters, and plenty of opportunities to stop, dance, or simply soak in the eerie atmosphere. It's a fun way to experience the event even when you're taking a break from haunted house lines.
🧚♀️ Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Club Horror isn't a scheduled stage show—it's a street experience. If you find yourself in the San Francisco area during the evening, slow down for a few minutes. It's a fun way to catch your breath between houses without stepping completely out of the spooky atmosphere.
Mel's D-I-E IN Returns
Location: (Hollywood)
One of our favorite little details from Halloween Horror Nights is back! Mel's D-I-E IN once again transforms Mel's Drive-In into a zombie-infested diner, complete with undead waitstaff roaming the restaurant and interacting with guests. It's not a full show or scare zone—just one of those fun, unexpected moments that makes HHN feel alive (or maybe undead!).
🧚♀️ From Our Experience: During HHN 34, Kim and College Boy spent several minutes chatting with one particularly entertaining zombie waiter who proudly introduced them to his "human meatballs." It was one of those completely unscripted interactions that ended up being one of their favorite memories of the night. If you walk by Mel's, don't just keep moving—slow down and see what kind of mischief the zombie servers are up to.
Chainsaw Horde
Location: (Roaming)
Unlike the other scare zones, the Chainsaw Horde doesn't stay in one location. This roaming pack of chainsaw-wielding scareactors can appear throughout the San Francisco area, revving their chainsaws and sending guests scattering in every direction. You never quite know when—or where—they'll show up, making them one of the most unpredictable scares of the night.

Stranger Things: Hawkins Forever Lagoon Show
New for Halloween Horror Nights 35, this all-new lagoon spectacular celebrates all five seasons of Stranger Things, combining projections, fountains, music, lighting, and special effects into an immersive nighttime show.

Nightmare Fuel: Blood Noir
A returning fan favorite, Nightmare Fuel is part Broadway-style production, part rock concert, with a side of horror thrown in. Expect high-energy stunts, illusions, fire, dancing, and loud rock music. It's a great break from the constant scares of the haunted houses while still delivering plenty of Halloween Horror Nights atmosphere.

HamiKuma Meet-and-Greet — New for HHN 35
New for HHN 35, Universal Studios Japan fan-favorite HamiKuma is finally getting his own Orlando meet-and-greet. The creepy-cute bear has developed something of a cult following among HHN fans, and while HamiKuma merchandise arrived at Universal Orlando last year, this will be the character's first actual meet-and-greet in Florida.
Look for HamiKuma inside the Five & Dime during Halloween Horror Nights event hours. Universal has not announced specific appearance times yet, so we recommend checking for current information once you're in the park.

Death Eaters in Diagon Alley (What to Expect)
One of the most immersive—and slightly unsettling—experiences at Halloween Horror Nights takes place inside The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley. Universal has confirmed Death Eaters will be roaming Diagon Alley on select dates August 27-November 1
What to Expect
This is not a simple meet and greet. Instead it's an area-wide experience that changes the entire tone of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter into a dark world overrun by He Who Shall Not Be Named's evil minions, featuring:
Roaming interactions throughout Diagon Alley and Knockturn Alley, with Death Eaters challenging guests and casting spells
Atmospheric mini-shows with dramatic lighting, fog, and wand duels
Immersive ambiance—from whispered threats to sudden appearances in darkened alleyways
The Death Eaters are a living, breathing part of the environment - which makes it feel even more unpredictable.

🧚♀️ From Our Experience: The Death Eaters encounter is one of Kim and College Boy’s favorite parts of HHN each year—and they always make it a priority at the start of the night.
They’ve found that even if you have to wait a little bit early on, the interactions feel much more personal before the area fills in later. As the night goes on, it becomes more crowded and a bit harder to catch those one-on-one moments.

🛍️ HHN Tribute Store
Each year, Halloween Horror Nights features a themed Tribute Store at Universal Studios Florida, and it’s an unexpected continuation of the fun.
These immersive retail spaces are much more than just shops, with highly themed rooms, detailed storytelling, and plenty of hidden Easter eggs tied to HHN lore.
For HHN 35, the Tribute Store is Sideshow Obscura, opening August 26 in its original location to the left of Revenge of the Mummy. Passholders get early access August 25.
This year’s story takes you inside a mysterious traveling sideshow, with eerie oddities, strange creatures, backstage spaces, and a creepy midway to explore along the way.
👉 You do not need an HHN ticket to visit the Tribute Store during regular park hours, so even guests who aren’t attending Halloween Horror Nights can check it out with regular Universal Studios Florida admission.
🧚♀️ Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Don’t rush through this—take your time and explore. The Tribute Store is often as detailed and immersive as a haunted house (just without the jump scares), though Kim and College Boy saw Art the Clown roaming the store leering at customers last year.
Universal's online store already has t-shirts, hats, stickers, blankets, cups and figures available for many of the IPs from HHN 35, including Ozzy Osbourne, Hellraiser, Evil Dead, Stranger Things, and FORTNITMEARES.
Food & Drinks at Halloween Horror Nights
Halloween Horror Nights isn’t just about haunted houses and scare zones, it’s also a full-on foodie fright fest. Each year, Universal Orlando Resort rolls out exclusive eats, over-the-top desserts, and specialty cocktails themed to the event, with food booths scattered throughout the park. Themed booths with limited-time menus plus collectible cups are the name of the game here. The menu is new every year, and part of the fun is trying all the seasonal frightful creations plus hitting those classic HHN favorites like Pizza Fries.

El's Battery Jerky — beef jerky pieces with creamy mac & cheese and garlic bread.
Upside Down Chicken & Waffles has also appeared on the booth menu: crispy chicken bites with a cheese-and-potato waffle and sriracha aioli.
Hopper's Recharger is the themed specialty drink.
Hellraiser
Pleasure & Pain Brain — easily one of the most visually HHN-ish foods this year, a brain-shaped dessert surrounded by red sauce and crumble.
Cenobite's Kiss is the accompanying themed drink.

Annie's Juke Joint Catfish & Grits — fried catfish over grits, which ties beautifully into the juke-joint setting of the movie and house.
Slide Guitar Smash is the themed drink.
This may be one of the more interesting menus if readers want something that feels like actual dinner rather than novelty horror food.

Prince of Darkness Cake — black cake with dark red accents and a bat on top. This may win the prize for most Instagrammable dessert.
Black Rain is the corresponding Ozzy-themed drink.
Evil Dead Burn
Lasagna Burn — despite the name, the preview looks more like a savory dumpling-style dish topped with sauce and green onions than traditional lasagna.
Frostbite is a bright blue specialty drink with gummy teeth.

If you love the atmosphere of Halloween Horror Nights but aren’t a fan of constant jump scares, there is a way to make the experience a little more manageable.
Confirmed to be returning this year Universal will be once again offering a “no-scare” style lanyard (often referred to as a “Deathly Afraid” necklace) that signals to scare actors in scare zones and common areas to ease up on targeting you. The 2026 Deathly Afraid Necklace costs $20 and is available at Five & Dime and the HHN Tribute Store. When illuminated, it signals that you do not want to be directly targeted in scare zones and common areas. This will be my story for HHN 35. When we head there in October I'll be there for the first time, Deathly Afraid Necklace around my neck, avoiding chainsaw-wielding hoards like the plague.

According to Kim and College Boy, who brave the houses every year, they usually take around five minutes to walk through, though a few may feel slightly longer or shorter depending on the pace of the group ahead of you. That's one reason many guests choose to arrive early, stay until closing, or purchase Express Pass (or all three), most of your night is spent waiting in line rather than inside the houses themselves.
How many haunted houses can you realistically do in one night?
Without Express Pass, usually 4–6 houses with good planning (sometimes more on lighter nights). With Stay & Scream and a late night we have found 6–8 is often achievable, potentially 8–10 with an aggressive 2:00 p.m.–2:00 a.m. plan. With Express Pass many guests can experience all 10 houses, plus shows and some attractions, especially on less crowded nights.
Will the Death Eaters be at Halloween Horror Nights in 2026?
