Universal Nights at Epic Universe: Is the After-Hours Event Worth It?

Updated October 4, 2026
Epic Universe after dark, a smaller crowd, and a little midnight monster time? Well, hello there, Universal. You have our attention.
Universal Nights at Epic Universe is a separately ticketed after-hours event that gives guests three hours of limited-capacity park access after the regular park closes, with event-ticket entry beginning at 7 p.m. Much like a Disney After Hours event, the biggest perk isn't a long list of exclusive entertainment. It's the chance to experience a very popular park with far fewer people in it.
After the first Universal Nights on October 3, we have a much better idea of what that looks like in practice. Guests reported extremely short waits for most attractions, easy access to characters and interactive experiences, and a park that still felt surprisingly lively after the daytime crowd headed home.
But this isn't Halloween Horror Nights, and it isn't Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party with a Universal twist. There aren't enough party-exclusive experiences here to make the entertainment itself the reason to spend $179.99.
We've spent plenty of time in Epic Universe, and nighttime is already one of our favorite ways to experience this park. So the idea of shorter lines, cooler temperatures, and enough breathing room to actually enjoy those gorgeous worlds after dark? That's where Universal Nights gets interesting.
The real question isn't simply whether Universal Nights is “worth it.” It's whether this particular version of Epic Universe fits the way your family wants to spend its time and vacation budget.
Don't Have Time for the Whole Guide?
The short version: Universal Nights makes the most sense for guests who have limited Epic Universe time, want to prioritize the park’s biggest attractions, or simply hate spending vacation in long queues. Opening night showed that the limited attendance can make a very noticeable difference in wait times.
We’d have a harder time justifying the extra cost if you already have several Epic Universe days, your group won’t ride many of the major attractions, or you’re expecting a heavily themed party packed with exclusive entertainment.
Universal Nights at Epic Universe: The Basics

Universal Nights is a separately ticketed after-hours event at Epic Universe. Your event ticket lets you enter beginning at 7 p.m., with the park reserved for Universal Nights guests from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Event Ticket Entry | 7 p.m. |
Exclusive Event Hours | 9 p.m.–midnight |
Day Ticket Required? | No |
Worlds Open | All five |

Included Food | Celestial Popcorn, Crispy Kimchi Bao, Coca-Cola Freestyle refills |
Express Pass | No |
Characters and Entertainment | Yes |
Universal Celestial Goodnight | During the regular park evening; check the day's schedule |
Passholder perk: Valid Universal Orlando Annual and Seasonal Passholders can save 10% on event tickets, for up to six tickets per valid pass. Premier and Preferred Passholders also receive eligible food and merchandise discounts, subject to restrictions.
What Happens Between 7 and 9 p.m.?
Those first two hours are a mix-in period. Universal Nights guests can enter Epic Universe beginning at 7 p.m., but regular daytime guests are still in the park until closing.
That means you should not expect the magically empty version of Epic Universe the second you walk through the gates. The advantage is that you can use those two hours to get oriented, enjoy dinner or the nighttime atmosphere, catch Universal Celestial Goodnight, and watch wait times begin to fall as daytime guests head out.
Then, beginning at 9 p.m., the park is reserved for Universal Nights ticket holders.
Already spending the day at Epic Universe? You don't need to exit and re-enter for Universal Nights. Opening-night guests were able to check in inside the park and receive their event wristband. Look for the designated event check-in location or ask a Team Member when you arrive, since pickup locations may change by event night.
🧚 Pixie Dust Pro Tip: We would not spend the entire 7–9 p.m. window standing in a very long headliner queue if that same attraction is likely to have a dramatically shorter wait once the exclusive event begins.
Is Universal Nights the Same as Halloween Horror Nights?
Nope. Despite the late-night hours and the fact that you can wander through Dark Universe with monsters still out and about, Universal Nights is not a smaller version of Halloween Horror Nights.
Universal Nights takes place at Epic Universe and is primarily about experiencing the regular park with a limited number of guests. There are no HHN haunted houses or scare zones, and a Universal Nights ticket does not include admission to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida.
If haunted houses, scare zones, and an entire evening devoted to horror are more your speed, hop over to our Halloween Horror Nights guide.
Do You Need a Regular Epic Universe Ticket?
No. Your Universal Nights ticket gets you into Epic Universe beginning at 7 p.m.; you do not need separate daytime park admission.
The reverse is also true: regular Epic Universe admission does not include Universal Nights.

Want the important details without hunting through the whole guide while you’re standing in Epic Universe? We put the dates, hours, attractions, included food and drinks, shopping, characters, and entertainment into one quick-reference sheet.
Save the JPG to your phone for the park, or download the printer-friendly PDF before your trip.

We’ll keep the cheat sheet updated along with this guide as Universal adjusts the event. Attraction availability, entertainment schedules, characters, dining, and shopping can still change from night to night, so give the Universal Orlando app a quick check when you arrive.
What Is Universal Nights Actually Like?

Now that the first Universal Nights has actually happened, we have a much better idea of what Universal means by “limited capacity.” And honestly, this is where the event starts to get interesting.
The Low Crowds Are the Real Perk
Epic Universe can feel surprisingly busy to us even when the overall crowd level isn't especially high. So many of its attractions draw headliner-level interest, and there aren't as many quick little rides to bop into between the bigger queues. A lot of people end up moving through the same handful of places at the same time. Universal Nights changes that equation.
During the first event, firsthand guest reports were remarkably consistent: once the daytime crowd cleared out, many attractions were walk-ons or had waits around 10–15 minutes. Mine-Cart Madness was one of the notable exceptions, generally hovering closer to 20–30 minutes. In a park where Battle at the Ministry can easily eat up a sizable chunk of your day, that is a big deal.
And the advantage isn't only the number posted over the attraction entrance. Fewer people means less time navigating around crowds, more room to stop and look around, and a little more freedom to change plans without feeling as though one wrong turn just cost you an hour.
Epic Universe Is Even Better After Dark
We've spent plenty of time in Epic Universe, and we already think nighttime is one of the best ways to experience this park. Dark Universe gets wonderfully eerie once the sun goes down, but it isn't the only world worth seeing after dark. The lighting, portals, music, and atmosphere throughout Epic take on a different feel in the evening, and Celestial Park is especially lovely when everything is glowing.
There's a practical bonus, too: Epic is hot. The landscaping is still young, there isn't mature shade everywhere yet, and an Orlando evening is considerably more pleasant for wandering than the middle of the afternoon.
We wouldn't pay $179.99 just because Epic Universe is prettier after sunset. But prettier, cooler, and dramatically less crowded while you're also knocking out attractions? That's a much more interesting proposition.
The Park Still Feels Alive After Closing

One of our questions before opening night was whether Universal Nights would feel like a nearly empty park with the rides left running. That doesn't appear to be the case.
Opening-night guests still found characters in the worlds, live entertainment in Celestial Park, performances of Epic's regular shows, open restaurants and shops, and interactive experiences like the Power-Up Band games in SUPER NINTENDO WORLD — only without many of their normal lines.
That matters because we don't think the best way to spend Universal Nights is racing from attraction to attraction simply because you can. The short waits are the biggest perk, but having enough breathing room to actually enjoy Epic Universe may be almost as valuable. Stop for a character. Play the Nintendo games. Wander through Dark Universe after dark. Sit down for a few minutes and look around.
You paid for fewer people in the park. You might as well enjoy having fewer people in the park.
Opening-Night Reality Check
Opening night wasn't completely polished. Guests reported some confusion about where to pick up the complimentary food and drinks, and entertainment and character times were not especially easy to find. We also saw reports of Mine-Cart Madness stopping its queue before midnight and some longer waits for transportation back to Universal hotels after the event.
We're treating those as opening-night observations, not permanent Universal Nights rules. Universal has several more event dates to tweak the operation, and we'll keep this guide updated as we see which things were first-night hiccups and which become part of the regular experience.
🧚 Pixie Dust Planning Note: If there is a show, character, or attraction that would make or break your evening, check on it early. A three-hour exclusive event goes by surprisingly fast, and “we'll circle back later” is a much riskier strategy at 11:45 p.m.
What Is Included With Universal Nights?
Universal Nights keeps most of the regular Epic Universe experience available during the event. That includes rides across all five worlds, complimentary snacks and drinks, regular entertainment, character appearances, shopping, and many dining locations.
The important thing to remember is that not everything operates on the same schedule until midnight, so if something matters to your family, check its hours early in the evening.
Which Rides Are Open During Universal Nights?

Universal advertises access to attractions and experiences across all five Epic Universe worlds. Here is the park's 11-ride lineup to help you choose your priorities:
World | Rides |
Celestial Park | Stardust Racers; Constellation Carousel |
SUPER NINTENDO WORLD | Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge; Mine-Cart Madness; Yoshi's Adventure |
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic | Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry |
How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk | Hiccup's Wing Gliders; Dragon Racer's Rally; Fyre Drill |
Dark Universe | Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment; Curse of the Werewolf |
As always, ride availability can change because of weather or operational downtime, so keep an eye on the Universal Orlando app throughout the evening.
Even with shorter waits, there is still a lot to fit into three exclusive hours. We would choose three must-do attractionsbefore arriving and make sure everyone's priorities are actually represented.
Stardust Racers is a perfect example in our family. Kim would happily ride it again and again. Bren can be persuaded. Lyn's answer is an enthusiastic absolutely not. So somebody else's “perfect Universal Nights touring plan” would be rather useless for the three of us.
You may accomplish far more than three rides — opening-night guests certainly did — but having a short priority list keeps you from spending the night chasing whatever wait time happens to look smallest.
If Battle at the Ministry or Mine-Cart Madness is the reason you bought the ticket, we would also ride it while it is operating rather than saving it for the very end of the night.
🧚 Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Your feet do not earn bonus points for crisscrossing Celestial Park six times. When possible, finish what you want to do in one world before hopping through another portal.
For ride descriptions, intensity, and more help deciding which attractions fit your family, start with our Epic Universe park guide.
What Food and Drinks Are Included?
Universal Nights includes:
Berry-flavored Celestial Popcorn
Crispy Kimchi Bao
Coca-Cola Freestyle refills using a provided event cup
That is a noticeably different snack lineup from Disney After Hours, so bring your Epic appetite rather than your Mickey-bar expectations.
We would still eat a real dinner before the exclusive event hours begin and treat the included food as a bonus rather than your meal plan. Many Epic Universe restaurants remained open during opening night, particularly earlier in the evening, but locations gradually began closing as the night went on. If there is somewhere you specifically want to eat, check its hours before committing your precious 9 p.m.–midnight time to it.
🧚 Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Popcorn is a perfectly respectable theme park snack. Whether it becomes dinner is a discussion between you, your stomach, and the nearest bao. We vote for a real meal first.
Shows, Characters, Shopping, and Other Things to Do

Universal Nights does not strip Epic Universe down to rides only. Opening night included performances of Le Cirque Arcanus and The Untrainable Dragon, along with roaming and scheduled character appearances throughout the park. Guests encountered characters including Astrid in Isle of Berk and monsters such as The Invisible Man and Ygor in Dark Universe.
The interactive experiences remained part of the evening too. Power-Up Band activities in SUPER NINTENDO WORLD reportedly had little to no wait, which is exactly the sort of thing we would make time for during a lower-crowd night.
Universal Celestial Goodnight is performed before the exclusive event hours, so if the nighttime spectacular is on your list, use the 7–9 p.m. mix-in window for it rather than assuming there will be another performance after the regular park closes.
Shopping also remains available at many locations during the evening. We don't think you need a shop-by-shop touring plan, but if there is a particular souvenir you want, we would take care of it earlier rather than gambling on that location still being open at 11:45 p.m.
The same goes for characters and shows. Schedules may vary by event night, and opening-night entertainment information was not especially easy to track down, so check when you arrive if something is important to you.
Is Universal Nights Worth $179.99?
For the right trip, we think it can be. But we would not automatically add Universal Nights to every Epic Universe vacation.
If you’ve read our Disney After Hours guide, you know these late-night park events have been a big hit with our family. We love shorter waits and a different pace in the parks. We also know that adding another $179.99-per-person ticket is a very real vacation-budget decision.
Opening night made one thing much clearer: the limited attendance can give you a lot of attraction time for your money. The question is whether those are attractions your family actually wants to ride.
Two of the three of us are pretty enthusiastic Epic Universe fans, but that still doesn't make the answer automatic. If motion sickness, ride intensity, or personal preference takes several of the park's headliners off your list, your value calculation looks very different from someone hoping to ride Battle at the Ministry, Stardust Racers, Monsters Unchained, and Mine-Cart Madness in the same evening.
That's why we wouldn't judge Universal Nights by the number of rides another family managed to accomplish. We'd judge it by how much your family could realistically enjoy during those five hours.
Who Will Get the Most Value From Universal Nights?
We'd give Universal Nights a serious look if:
You have limited Epic Universe time and want to prioritize several major attractions.
Long queues are one of the things that wears your family down most in a theme park.
You've already visited Epic and don't need your evening to include every meal, show, shop, and tiny detail.
Your group genuinely enjoys enough of Epic's headline attractions to take advantage of the short waits.
Late nights work well for your family.
The extra ticket fits comfortably into the vacation budget.
It can also make a lot of sense for a return visit. If you've already had your leisurely first day exploring every portal, Universal Nights gives you a very different way to revisit your favorites.
Who Should Probably Skip It?
We'd think twice if:
Your kids — or your grown-ups — are usually thoroughly finished by 9 p.m.
You're hoping Universal Nights will feel like a heavily themed party with lots of exclusive entertainment.
Only one or two of Epic's major attractions appeal to your group.
Motion sickness or ride intensity eliminates several of the headliners you'd otherwise be paying to access with shorter waits.
This will be your first Epic visit and you want plenty of time for meals, shows, shopping, characters, and simply wandering through the worlds.
Adding the event means cutting something your family cares about more.
A smaller crowd also doesn't remove loud effects, intense attractions, nighttime fireworks, or the sensory environments inside the individual worlds. If those things factor into how your family plans a park day, they still matter here.
Universal Nights or Another Day at Epic Universe?

For some families, this is probably the more useful question. If your goal is to ride several of Epic Universe's biggest attractions in a shorter amount of time, Universal Nights can be very appealing. Opening night showed just how much the lower attendance can change what you accomplish in a few hours.
If your goal is to experience Epic Universe itself, another regular park day may give you more value. A daytime visit gives you more time for leisurely meals, shows, shopping, character interactions, and all the little details that make Epic worth exploring. You also aren't trying to fit your experience into a night that ends at midnight.
So we wouldn't choose between the two based on ticket price alone. We'd look at who is traveling, which attractions they actually want to ride, how much Epic time is already built into the trip, how late everyone can comfortably stay up, and what else that vacation budget could buy.
🧚 Pixie Dust Planning Note: Universal Nights is most compelling when it solves a specific problem in your trip — not enough Epic time, too many must-do headliners, or a family that really struggles with long queues. If you don't have one of those problems, you may not need to spend $179.99 to solve it.
How We Would Do Universal Nights
With only three hours of exclusive park time, a little planning helps. But we would not build a minute-by-minute touring plan and spend the whole night chasing whichever wait time happens to be lowest.
The goal is to know your priorities, use the 7–9 p.m. window wisely, and leave yourself enough flexibility to actually enjoy having fewer people in Epic Universe.
Before 7 p.m.: Keep the Day Easy
If Universal Nights is the priority, we would not pair it with a rope-drop-to-close park day.
Sleep in. Enjoy the hotel. Spend some time at the pool. Have an early dinner.
Arriving exhausted is a very efficient way to dislike an event that doesn't end until midnight.
This is also a good time to make sure everyone has chosen their three biggest priorities for the evening. They don't all have to be rides. A show, a character, Power-Up Band games, or simply spending time in Dark Universe after dark can absolutely make the list.
🧚 Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Start the night with a charged phone and bring a portable charger. Between the Universal app, photos, wait-time checks, and whatever else your phone decides it needs to do, midnight is a long way away. Your feet will probably need recharging too, but we have yet to locate the USB port for those.
7–9 p.m.: Use the Early-Entry Window
Your Universal Nights ticket gets you into Epic Universe beginning at 7 p.m., but daytime guests are still in the park during these first two hours.
We would use this time for things that don't require the lower event crowds.
Check entertainment times and restaurant hours when you arrive. Catch Universal Celestial Goodnight if it's on your list. Take photos, enjoy the atmosphere, grab anything you still need to eat, and watch the attraction waits begin to drop as regular park guests head for the exit.
We would be very reluctant to jump into a huge headliner queue at 7:05 p.m. if we're expecting that same attraction to have a dramatically shorter wait after 9.
9–10 p.m.: Start With What Matters Most
Once the exclusive event hours begin, head toward the thing that would disappoint you most if you missed it. For one family, that might be Battle at the Ministry. For another, it's Mine-Cart Madness. Kim might make a beeline for Stardust Racers while Lyn heads enthusiastically in almost any other direction.
This is where your priority list matters more than somebody else's “perfect” touring plan.
If your must-dos are clustered in the same world, stay there and finish them before moving on.
🧚 Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Your feet do not earn bonus points for crisscrossing Celestial Park six times. Portal hopping is much more fun when it isn't an endurance sport.
10–11 p.m.: Slow Down a Little
By this point, you will hopefully have tackled at least a couple of your biggest priorities.
Now give yourself permission to enjoy the part of Universal Nights that doesn't show up on a wait-time board.
Play the Power-Up Band games without their usual lines. Stop when you spot a character. Catch a show. Reride something you loved. Wander through Dark Universe after dark instead of simply using it as a shortcut to the next attraction.
One of the biggest advantages of Universal Nights is having more room to enjoy Epic Universe. We wouldn't spend the entire evening racing past all that detail just because another ride happens to be a walk-on.
11 p.m.–Midnight: Finish Smart
Take stock before the final there one priority you still haven't done? Do it now. We would not save the attraction that would make or break the evening for 11:55 p.m. Ride availability can change, queues can close, and three hours goes surprisingly fast.
After that, let the final part of the night be fun rather than frantic. Ride a favorite again. Spend a little more time in the world your family loves most. Grab one last photo. Enjoy Celestial Park without the daytime crowd moving in every direction around you.
You paid for the unusual experience of having fewer people in Epic Universe.
Leave yourself a few minutes to actually notice it.
Universal Nights FAQ
What Time Can You Enter Epic Universe With a Universal Nights Ticket?
Universal Nights ticket holders can enter Epic Universe beginning at 7 p.m. The exclusive event hours run from 9 p.m. to midnight, so your ticket gives you up to five hours in the park. From 7–9 p.m., regular daytime guests are still in Epic Universe. We would use those two hours for dinner if needed, Universal Celestial Goodnight, photos, checking entertainment schedules, and anything that doesn't require the much lower event crowds.
Do You Need a Regular Epic Universe Ticket for Universal Nights?
No. A Universal Nights ticket includes entry to Epic Universe beginning at 7 p.m., so you do not need separate daytime park admission. Regular Epic Universe admission does not include Universal Nights.
Is Express Pass Available During Universal Nights?
No. Express Pass is not available during Universal Nights. The good news is that opening-night waits were already dramatically shorter than a typical Epic Universe day, so Express wasn't nearly as important as it normally might be.
Are All Epic Universe Rides Open During Universal Nights?
Universal advertises access to attractions and experiences across all five Epic Universe worlds during Universal Nights. As with any theme park evening, individual attractions can still close because of weather, technical issues, or other operational reasons. If there is one ride that would make or break the night for you, we would prioritize it rather than saving it for the final few minutes.
Is Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry Open During Universal Nights?
Yes. Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry is included in the advertised Universal Nights attraction lineup. This is one of the rides that makes the event particularly interesting: opening-night guests reported dramatically shorter waits than Battle at the Ministry typically sees during regular park hours.
Is Food Included With Universal Nights?
Yes, but don't arrive expecting an all-you-can-eat dinner. Universal Nights includes berry-flavored Celestial Popcorn, Crispy Kimchi Bao, and Coca-Cola Freestyle refills using the provided event cup. We would eat a real meal before the exclusive hours begin and consider the included food a snack bonus.
Are There Shows and Characters During Universal Nights?
Yes. Opening night included performances of Epic Universe's regular entertainment as well as character appearances throughout the park. Exact showtimes and character appearances may vary by event date, so check when you arrive if there is something you especially want to see.
Is Universal Nights the Same as Halloween Horror Nights?
No. Universal Nights takes place at Epic Universe, while Halloween Horror Nights takes place at Universal Studios Florida. Universal Nights does not include HHN haunted houses or scare zones, and your Universal Nights ticket does not include Halloween Horror Nights admission. Dark Universe is still wonderfully monster-filled after dark, but this is a very different event.
Is Universal Nights Good for a First Visit to Epic Universe?
It can be, but we wouldn't automatically recommend it as a replacement for a full Epic Universe day. If your priority is riding several of the park's biggest attractions with much shorter waits, Universal Nights could be a great use of your time. If this is your first visit and you want leisurely meals, shows, shopping, characters, and plenty of time to explore every world, a regular park day gives you more breathing room.
Do I Have to Leave Epic Universe If I’m Already in the Park?
No. If you have both daytime admission and a Universal Nights ticket, you can remain inside Epic Universe and check in for the event without exiting the park. Universal Nights guests receive a wristband identifying them for the after-hours event. On opening night, in-park wristband pickup was available for guests already inside Epic Universe. Universal has not published a permanent pickup location for every event date, so ask a Team Member or Concierge where event check-in is taking place that evening.
Is Universal Nights Worth $179.99?
For some trips, absolutely. For others, we'd spend that money somewhere else.
Universal Nights makes the strongest case for itself when you have limited Epic Universe time, several must-do headliners, or a family that really dislikes long queues. If you already have multiple Epic days or don't plan to ride many of the major attractions, the value drops considerably.
That's a Wrap

Universal Nights is still new, and we expect Universal will keep tweaking the details as more event nights happen. But after opening night, we have a much clearer picture: this is less about exclusive party entertainment and more about getting a very different version of Epic Universe — cooler, quieter, and considerably easier to enjoy without spending half the evening in line. Would we add it to every Universal trip? Nope. But for the right family and the right itinerary, we can absolutely see the appeal.
