Oogie Boogie Bash 2026 Guide: What Disney World & MNSSHP Regulars Need to Know

If you have been to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party enough times that you can practically hear “Boo to You” playing in your head as soon as August rolls around, it is very tempting to look at Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure and think, “Okay. Disneyland's Halloween party. Got it.”
Separate ticket? Check. Costumes or Disney bounding? Check. Candy? Lots of it. Rare characters? Absolutely. Five hours to attempt far more things than any reasonable human can accomplish? Apparently Disney has kept that part consistent on both coasts.
But the more we have researched Oogie Boogie Bash for our own first visit, the clearer one thing has become: Oogie Boogie Bash is not Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party West.
The ingredients may look familiar, but Disney uses them very differently. At MNSSHP, our evening tends to revolve around scheduled entertainment: Boo-to-You, fireworks, Hocus Pocus, characters and then everything else we can squeeze in between. At Oogie Boogie Bash, the immersive villain treat trails, rare character appearances, Villains Grove and roaming through the park seem to be much more central to the experience. And that means WDW regulars may need to rethink the way we plan the night.
So, grab your coffee. We have five party hours, a rather alarming number of villains and absolutely no intention of spending half the night standing in the wrong line.

Your Oogie Boogie Bash ticket gets you into Disney California Adventure beginning at 3:00 p.m., three hours before the event officially starts at 6:00. You do not need a separate park ticket or park reservation for that entry. Disney also includes PhotoPass downloads taken from 6:00–11:00 p.m., while Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Single Pass and Premier Pass are not available during the event.

🧚 Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Do not think of 3:00–6:00 as three extra party hours. Think of it as three hours to get ordinary park business out of the way so you don't spend your very expensive five party hours eating dinner, shopping or riding something you could have ridden earlier.
Can Adults Wear Costumes to Oogie Boogie Bash?
Just like with MNSSHP, adults can wear costumes to Oogie Boogie Bash! Disney’s usual costume rules are relaxed:

Is Oogie Boogie Bash Basically Disneyland's MNSSHP?
Nope. Understanding that before you go may be one of the most important Oogie Boogie Bash planning tips for Disney World regulars. It is certainly what we were thinking before we started researching it.
Both events last five hours. Both feature trick-or-treating, Halloween costumes, rare characters, special entertainment and lighter attraction waits. But MNSSHP is much more dependent on a schedule, while Oogie Boogie Bash gives you more freedom to wander from experience to experience.
At MNSSHP, Boo-to-You runs twice, Hocus Pocus has scheduled shows and the fireworks happen once. Miss that 10:00 p.m. fireworks show and Disney is not setting them off again because you were meeting Winnie the Pooh all dressed up for Halloween.
OBB does have scheduled entertainment, but there are fewer big “stop everything and be here at exactly this time” moments which change the entire rhythm of the night.

WDW Regular Reality Check: If you walk into OBB planning to tour it exactly like MNSSHP, you may spend a lot of time looking for the equivalent of things that simply aren't there. Nowhere is that more obvious than with the treat trails.

Oogie Boogie Bash Treat Trails: The Biggest Difference from MNSSHP
Before we started researching Oogie Boogie Bash, we knew there were villain characters along the treat trails, but we assumed they worked something like the character surprises we've seen at Mickey's Not-So-Scary—maybe the Evil Queen and Maleficent inside Princess Fairytale Hall, or the Haunted Mansion characters guests encounter along the Market Street party entrance. Nope.
At MNSSHP, we normally think of trick-or-treat trails as…well…places to get candy. Yes, Disney has been adding more character interactions, but the candy is still fundamentally the activity. With the exception of something like the Princess Fairytale Hall trail, we usually skip trick-or-treating unless we happen upon a short line.
Scandalous, I know. We aren't big candy people, and there are simply too many other things we'd rather spend our MNSSHP party time doing.
At Oogie Boogie Bash, however, some of the treat trails are entertainment.
Disney stages villains throughout these immersive trails, where they talk, perform, react to guests and generally cause trouble while everyone continues moving through. You collect candy along the way, but the villain is the reason you're there.
For 2026, Disney's villain treat-trail lineup includes Oogie Boogie, Ernesto de la Cruz, Yzma, Maleficent, Syndrome, Agatha Harkness, Dr. Doofenshmirtz, Hades and Judge Doom. Yzma is new this year, joining a pretty impressive collection of characters you don't exactly stumble across during a normal Disney park day.
These Are Not Traditional Character Meet-and-Greets
This was the big expectation reset for us as WDW regulars. You generally aren't walking up to Hades, hugging him, handing him an autograph book and posing for your Christmas card.
Instead, the villains are staged within the trail and interact with guests as everyone moves past. You can watch them perform, hear their banter, snap photos and occasionally become part of the interaction, but this isn't an individual hug-and-PhotoPass kind of character meet.
From a planning standpoint this sounds amazing. One of the hardest lessons of MNSSHP is that rare character meets can eat a party alive. If you wait 90 minutes for one character during a five-hour event, you have just spent nearly one-third of your party standing in one place.
The immersive trails give you a chance to experience a whole lot of wonderfully weird Disney characters while doing something else at the same time.

But Yes, You Are Still Trick-or-Treating
The immersive villain trails aren't the only places to collect treats, and there are plenty of more traditional candy stops around the park too.
This is where I suspect we're going to have to fight our MNSSHP muscle memory.
At Mickey's Not-So-Scary, once you've been a few times, it becomes very easy to walk past a candy line and think, “We'll grab some later.”
At OBB, the villain trails aren't really skippable just because you don't need the candy. You aren't there for the Snickers; you're there because Dr. Doofenshmirtz might be discussing his latest Inator while somebody drops the Snickers into your bag.
Completely different planning calculation.
🧚 Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Don't automatically join a huge villain trail line just because it's next on your list. These lines tend to keep moving, and waits can fluctuate quite a bit throughout the evening. If one looks ridiculous, go see another villain and circle back rather than burning valuable party time standing still.
Oogie Boogie Bash Character Meet-and-Greets
This is where things get a little dangerous for people like us who see a rare character and immediately think, “Well, obviously we need that picture.” Lyn, in particular, is a HUGE fan of a meet-and-greet, especially a rare one. It brings out her inner child and makes her ridiculously happy. Oogie Boogie Bash still has traditional character greetings, and several of them are extremely unusual.
Disney has confirmed Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck and Clarabelle Cow dressed as the Sanderson Sisters; Mickey, Donald and Goofy in their Kingdom Hearts costumes; Pain, Panic and Megara; Toy Story characters; Edna Mode and Mr. Incredible; plus several Marvel characters. These operate much more like the character meets we know from MNSSHP, which also means they can have MNSSHP-style waits.
Opening-week reports indicate that both the Kingdom Hearts trio and Sanderson Sisters can be among the most time-consuming character experiences. Some of the best current strategy advice is to get into your highest-priority traditional character line before the party officially begins.
And this is where I would apply exactly the same rule we use at Mickey's Not-So-Scary:
Pick your must-dos. Not eight. Not “everyone on the map.” Maybe one or two character meets that would genuinely make your night.
Everything else becomes bonus Pixie Dust. Because there is simply no version of a five-hour Disney Halloween party where you meet every rare character, experience every treat trail, watch all the entertainment, tour Villains Grove, ride everything, eat six specialty snacks and leisurely take photos in Cars Land. We have tried similar foolishness during our first MNSSHP back in the day, and friends, Disney always wins.
Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake: Oogie Boogie Bash Entertainment in 2026
One of the biggest 2026 changes at Oogie Boogie Bash is the loss of the Frightfully Fun Parade, which has traditionally been OBB’s closest equivalent to Boo-to-You. Construction connected to the future Coco attraction affected the parade setup, and Disney replaced it this year with Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party, performed at 8:05 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. I will admit, our MNSSHP-loving brains had questions. No Halloween fireworks, no Sanderson Sisters-style stage show, and now no parade? We seriously reconsidered buying party tickets for a minute there.
But we dug a little deeper, read early party reviews and realized we needed to change our preconceptions. Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake is not simply another Disney street party. Early reports describe it as more of a parade/street-party/show hybrid, with Haunted Mansion performers, music and choreographed show stops along the route. And since we are, after all, Haunted Mansion stans, that got our attention.
The show stops were a new twist for us. The procession actually pauses several times along the route and becomes a full choreographed show for a few minutes. Current reporting identifies show stops near The Little Mermaid, the Sonoma Terrace/Wine Country Trattoria area and Hollywood Land near Award Wieners. If you simply stand somewhere between those locations, you'll still see the procession pass, but you may miss the longer choreographed segment. So the real question isn’t first show or second show as much as: Do you just want to see it pass, or do you want a complete show stop?
If you only want the general experience, I would be reluctant to spend 45–60 minutes of a five-hour party holding a spot. However, if you want the entire experience, that calculation may look very different.
Bonus: There Is a Headless Horseman!
We do get one very familiar friend. Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman appear ahead of Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake, with their appearances shortly before the two street-party performances. Disney World people who consider the Headless Horseman the official sign that Halloween has begun can relax.
He apparently travels to both coasts.
Oogie Boogie Bash Dessert Party
If you want to take one big party-night variable off the table, Oogie Boogie Bash offers a Dessert Party with reserved seated viewing for Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party. The 2026 package costs $94 per person, in addition to your Oogie Boogie Bash ticket, and the viewing area is located in front of Sonoma Terrace.
The package includes an Oogie Boogie-themed box that contains a selection of Halloween desserts along with the charcuterie, cheeses and freeze-dried fruit, plus an exclusive collectible pin. Drinks include unlimited soft drinks, bottled water, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and a nonalcoholic specialty drink; guests 21 and older also receive an alcoholic beverage.
We booked the dessert party for the second Madame Leota performance on our Oogie Boogie Bash night. Since this is our first OBB and we aren't quite sure yet how party crowds and entertainment viewing will work in real life, having an actual seat and a reserved viewing location for something we are especially excited to see felt like a good place to splurge. It gives us a known place to be later in the evening without having to figure out how early to stake out a show-stop location or squeeze into an unfamiliar crowd. Is $94 per person for snacks and a seat inexpensive? Absolutely not. Is there something very appealing about knowing that one piece of our first Oogie Boogie night is already handled? Also yes.
🧚 Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Your dessert-party reservation time is not the street-party showtime. Disney says Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake begins about 45 minutes after your reservation time, so check your confirmation carefully when planning the rest of your evening. Mobile check-in opens one hour beforehand, but Disney asks guests to arrive at the viewing area no more than 10 minutes before their reservation. Also know that seating may be shared with another party, so “reserved seating” does not necessarily mean a private table.
Villains Grove at Oogie Boogie Bash: Save It for After Dark
This is one OBB offering that doesn’t have anything comparable at MNSSHP. This is not a haunted house—there aren’t villains hiding behind trees waiting to make you spill your candy. Disney transforms the forest itself, with areas inspired by characters including Maleficent, Dr. Facilier, Scar, Frollo, the Queen of Hearts and the Evil Queen. Think Halloween Horror Nights scare zones, minus the scare actors and with a very Disney-villain spin.
Disney's current schedule has Villains Grove beginning at 8:00 p.m., which makes sense because darkness is doing quite a bit of work here. There is no need to plan your party night around it. Let it get dark, let the opening rush disappear, then wander through when the forest can actually be appropriately villainous.
🧚 Pixie Dust Pro Tip: If you plan to watch one Madame Leota performance, Villains Grove may be a good target during the other. A large chunk of the party crowd will be focused on the street party, which may help with waits.
Oogie Boogie Bash Early Entry: Use 3:00–6:00 Like You Mean It
This may be my strongest planning opinion before we even set foot in the party. Your OBB ticket lets you enter Disney California Adventure at 3:00 p.m., and we intend to squeeze every useful drop out of those three hours.
But not necessarily by doing party things. Remember, 3:00–6:00 is a mix-in period, not an OBB-exclusive park window. Day guests are still in DCA, so don't expect empty walkways and instant ride access just because your party wristband is on.
Instead, think of these three hours as a chance to get as much non-party business out of the way as possible before the clock hits six: eat dinner, pick up any must-have merchandise, take daylight costume photos, get oriented and tackle Halloween attractions that aren't actually exclusive to Oogie Boogie Bash.
Halloween Ride Overlays: What Changes—and When You Can Ride Them
Seasonal attraction overlays are always fun, a new way to experience a beloved attraction. For the Halloween season there are three DCA attractions with overlays: Guardians of the Galaxy, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree and Luigi’s Rollickin Roadsters.
One thing that confused us when we started planning was exactly when these Halloween attraction overlays happen. At MNSSHP, we are used to thinking of attraction overlays as part of the party itself. At DCA, all three are part of the broader Halloween season. The important planning difference is timing: Mater and Luigi operate in their Halloween versions throughout the day, while Guardians switches to Monsters After Dark in the afternoon.
Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark
Earlier in the day, Guardians operates as the regular Mission: BREAKOUT! experience. Around 2:00 p.m., Mission: BREAKOUT! closes temporarily so Disney can switch the attraction over, and Monsters After Dark generally begins around 3:00 p.m. and continues for the rest of the evening—including during Oogie Boogie Bash.
And this isn't just some pumpkins and Halloween music slapped onto the regular ride. Monsters After Dark is essentially a sequel to Mission: BREAKOUT! Groot has been left behind, monsters are loose in the Collector's Fortress, and Rocket has to go back in to rescue him. Disney also warns that this version includes darkness, loud sounds and menacing creatures that may be scary for some kids.
🧚 Pixie Dust Pro Tip: If Monsters After Dark is on your must-do list, the 3:00–6:00 mix-in is a great time to tackle it. You get the Halloween version without sacrificing actual party time—and if you have regular DCA admission earlier in the day, you could theoretically ride Mission: BREAKOUT! first and Monsters After Dark later to experience both versions.
Mater's Graveyard JamBOOree
Mater's Junkyard Jamboree becomes Mater's Graveyard JamBOOree for Halloween Time, with spooky Cars Land decorations and a completely different lineup of wonderfully ridiculous Halloween songs from Mater.
Unlike Guardians, you don't have to wait until afternoon for this one. The Halloween version operates throughout the day during Halloween Time, from August 21 through October 31, 2026, as well as during Oogie Boogie Bash.
Luigi's Honkin' Haul-O-Ween
Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters gets a similar seasonal transformation into Luigi's Honkin' Haul-O-Ween, complete with Halloween music, decorations and a delightfully ridiculous “Radiator Screams” spin on the attraction. Like Mater, Luigi's Halloween version runs throughout the regular park day during Halloween Time, August 21 through October 31, as well as during OBB.
🧚 WDW Regular Reality Check: Haunted Mansion Holiday is also part of Disneyland's Halloween season, but Haunted Mansion is over in Disneyland Park, not Disney California Adventure. You cannot ride it during Oogie Boogie Bash. If Jack Skellington's takeover is on your Halloween must-do list, plan that for your Disneyland Park time.
One More 3:00–6:00 Option: Mickey's Trick and Treat
Families with younger kids may also want to check the day's schedule for Mickey's Trick and Treat, an interactive Halloween stage show at the Disney Theater in Hollywood Land.
Here's the potentially confusing part: it is primarily a daytime Halloween Time offering, not Oogie Boogie Bash entertainment. On party days, late-afternoon performances may be accessible after OBB guests enter at 3:00, so check the Disneyland app for your date.
If this one matters to your family, put it in the mix-in plan. Don't wait until 7:00 and discover Mickey has already wrapped up his Halloween party while you're off collecting candy from Hades.
So what does all of this mean for our own 3:00–6:00 plan?
Monsters After Dark is the seasonal attraction we're most likely to prioritize during the mix-in. Mater and Luigi can happen during our other DCA time. That leaves us more room for dinner, photos, any must-have merchandise and getting ourselves near our first party priority before 6:00.
The goal isn't to cram as much as possible into those three hours. It's to use them for the things we don't need Oogie Boogie Bash itself to do.
Are Rides Worth It During Oogie Boogie Bash?
Yes, attractions operate during Oogie Boogie Bash, and Disney specifically promotes shorter waits as one of the event benefits. Whether you should ride them is a different question.
For a first Disneyland trip with limited DCA time, those shorter waits could be incredibly useful. Radiator Springs Racers at a fraction of its daytime wait may suddenly be very tempting. For someone who has several other DCA days? I'm much less convinced.
You paid a premium for Oogie Boogie, Yzma, Hades, Villains Grove and all the weird Halloween things that disappear when the clock strikes 11. Toy Story Midway Mania will still be there tomorrow. (Plus, we have one of those in Hollywood Studios.)
WDW Regular Reality Check: This feels similar to MNSSHP. A 10-minute wait for a headliner is exciting, but a short line does not automatically make it a good use of party time. The question is not “Is the wait short?” It is “What am I giving up to ride it?”
Eating at Oogie Boogie Bash Without Accidentally Eating Your Party
There are event-exclusive foods and drinks, because of course there are. When in doubt, Disney will create a specialty snack for it. Plus, Disney apparently does not believe five hours contains enough decisions already. But this is one area where I'd be fairly ruthless. If there is one OBB-exclusive snack you have been dreaming about, absolutely get it. A leisurely 70-minute dinner at 7:00 p.m.? Not with my party ticket.
Disney encourages guests to enjoy seasonal food during the pre-party period, and that is exactly when we are planning our real meal. Eat before 6. Then we can make questionable candy-based nutritional decisions later.
How We Would Plan a First Oogie Boogie Bash Night
I don't think OBB needs the same minute-by-minute plan I would build for MNSSHP. Instead, I would create a short list of must-dos. Before 6:00, we want to eat, ride any seasonal DCA attractions we care about, get photos and be positioned near our first party priority.
Then our actual party goals would be something like: one high-priority traditional character meet + all of the villain treat trails we care about + Villains Grove + one Madame Leota performance + some time to wander and enjoy the park.
Anything beyond that is extra.
This is something I want to test during our own party, because I suspect this may be the biggest strategic difference between MNSSHP and OBB: at MNSSHP, we are always watching the clock. At Oogie Boogie Bash, I think we may need to watch the map.
If Hades, Judge Doom and Doofenshmirtz are all nearby, hit them while you're there. Don't walk across the park because a planning spreadsheet says your next task starts at 7:42. The park is smaller. The experience appears more fluid. We should take advantage of that.

Five party hours go very quickly, and once we started plotting all of the villain treat trails, traditional character meets and Madame Leota show stops, we realized this was another one of those Disney events where seeing everything on one map makes planning considerably easier. So naturally, we made one.

If our map looks a little familiar, there’s a reason. We’ve been building MNSSHP maps and cheat sheets for years, and once we realized how much Disney’s Oogie Boogie map leaves you to decode for yourself, we knew this party needed the same treatment.
Is Oogie Boogie Bash Worth It for MNSSHP Fans?
Right now, my answer is: yes, but not because it gives you a Disneyland version of Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Instead, the things that make OBB most interesting are the things MNSSHP doesn't really have.
The immersive villain treat trails. Villains Grove. Rare characters that are very different from the Magic Kingdom lineup. A smaller park that lets you move between experiences more easily. And a Halloween event that seems less dependent on spending the whole night arranging yourself around parade, fireworks and show schedules.
If your favorite part of MNSSHP is Boo-to-You, Hocus Pocus and the fireworks, Oogie Boogie may initially feel surprisingly light on large-scale entertainment. If your favorite part is wandering around at night, meeting bizarre characters, finding villains, collecting candy and enjoying the Halloween atmosphere? This might be very much your party.
We'll have a much better answer after we've actually done it. Because no amount of research can tell us whether five hours will feel pleasantly flexible or whether we will suddenly look at the clock at 10:37 p.m. and discover we have somehow accomplished three things. Disney parties do have a way of doing that.
