Updated November 7, 2025 to include early reactions and reviews from the grand opening.
Zootopia: Better Zoogether officially opened this morning at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and early reactions are calling it delightfully adorable, high-energy, and way more visually impressive in person than the promo clips made it look.
The queue also got a major glow-up with fun Zootopia touches. One wall features a bulletin board packed with Zootopia-themed magazine covers, newspaper clippings, and flyers — so keep an eye out for the little details. There are also display cases filled with “Pawdora” jewelry collections inspired by different Zootopia characters. And once you’re in the theater, the main show delivers crisp new animation plus 4D effects that had the whole audience reacting and laughing right along with the story.

One quick heads up before you settle in — you might get wetter than you expect. There’s a splash moment toward the end that’s a lot bigger than most guests assumed. If you don’t want a damp surprise, aim for seats a little farther back or toward the center, instead of those prime front-row spots.
Overall, it’s a very family-friendly, super approachable addition to the park, and guests today seem to be loving it and for most visitors it’s a fun, breezy “mid-day AC break + sit down show” combo — just don’t go in assuming it’s totally dry!

Hardcore Disney Bloggers and Animal Kingdom purists are already debating the theme fit (because of course they are) — some fans feel like this is an IP tie-in to the new film instead of something deeply rooted in AK’s original conservation DNA. Interestingly, Imagineering leadership has actually spoken directly to this. In a preview panel interview (shared by Drew the Disney Dude on YouTube), Imagineer Chris Beatty, Creative Portfolio Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, said the core message is about “that harmony of nature and how each one of these animals and their biomes all have to depend on each other. And together, they’re stronger.” (I originally came across the link to Drew’s video via a Blog Mickey post.)
At the end of the day, time will tell how much lasting love and staying power this new show earns — and how the fandom ultimately feels about Zootopia taking up residency inside the Tree of Life Theater. But for now, guests seem to be walking out smiling, the Imagineers have clearly poured intention into the message they want guests to take away, and we’re genuinely excited to get to experience it ourselves on our December trip.

🍿 Zootopia Merch & Popcorn Bucket at Animal Kingdom
On November 7, Animal Kingdom isn’t just getting a new show — the park is unlocking an entire Zootopia-themed mini celebration. Merchandise drops (Loungefly backpack, glow-in-the-dark gear, exclusive pins), themed treats themed treats (including sweets + colorful drinks), and a must-get popcorn bucket all tie directly into the launch of the show. It’s the kind of rollout that makes a regular park day feel like an event.
🧚♀️ Pixie Dust Pro Tips: If you’re planning to get the popcorn bucket or pins, aim to arrive early— these types of items tend to sell out quickly.
☕️ The Tea from the Zootopia Previews
Early preview buzz has been mostly positive — guests are loving the upgraded visuals, the energetic Zoogether Day storyline, and the fun character moments from the Zootopia cast. Some longtime fans of It’s Tough to Be a Bug! have mentioned they miss the deeper conservation message, but for most visitors (especially families), this new 4-D adventure feels brighter, more playful, and overall more approachable than its predecessor.
🧚♀️ Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Zootopia is using a Virtual Queue during previews on November 5–6 — and we still don’t know if that will continue once the show officially opens. I’ve got all the details (plus how to join at 7am + 1pm) in our Zootopia Virtual Queue Preview Guide.

Disney just confirmed that Zootopia: Better Zoogether! — opening November 7, 2025, inside the Tree of Life Theater— will be part of the Lightning Lane Multi Pass lineup at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The show will be bookable as a Lighting Lane on November 1, 2025 for guests of Walt Disney World resort properties, and November 4, 2025 for everyone else.
🦊 What the New Show Is All About
So what can you expect? Guests will join Judy, Nick, and friends for a high-energy performance packed with humor, heart, and plenty of eye-popping effects. Disney Imagineers are promising catchy music, comedy, and immersive visuals that whisk you from the frozen streets of Tundratown to the hustle and bustle of Savanna Central.

But here’s where it gets extra fun: the show introduces a brand-new character—Heidi Howler, a slick-talking wolf who hosts the Zoogether Day LIVE! broadcast with howls of energy (literally 🐺 “Awooooo!”).
Guests will watch as different Zootopia biomes take the stage with their own performances:
❄️ Tundratown — a dazzling ice-skating spectacular
🌿 Marsh Market — synchronized swimming routines
🐭 Little Rodentia — whimsical mouse-sized drone shows overhead
🎤 Grand Finale — a concert by superstar Gazelle herself
And to top it all off, the show features a brand-new original song sung by Judy Hopps, voiced once again by Ginnifer Goodwin.
✨ Newly Released Details on the “Better Zoogether” Experience (October 8, 2025)
I hope you’re ready to join in the fun, because we’re all invited to be part of the Zoogether Day watch party! Thanks to the special “Carrot Vision” glasses guests will wear during the show, some of your favorite characters from Zootopiaand the upcoming Zootopia 2 will appear to “jump” right off the screen.
But that’s not the only surprise! Benjamin Clawhauser himself will be in the theater—brought to life as an all-new Audio-Animatronics figure created exclusively for this attraction.
When we first met Clawhauser in Zootopia, he was sporting his ZPD uniform (and maybe sneaking a donut or two 🍩). At the Zoogether Day celebration, though, he’s trading it all in for a brand-new look: glow necklaces and his favorite glittery Gazelle tee.

This larger-than-life fan has one dream—to be chosen as the V.I.Z. (Very Important Zootopian) who gets special access to the Zoogether Day performers. And when that doesn’t quite work out, he’s ready to take matters into his own paws. 🐾
🧚♀️ Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Keep your eyes on Clawhauser during the show—Disney’s newest generation of Audio-Animatronics promises incredibly lifelike motion and expression that’ll make this one of Animal Kingdom’s most charming additions yet.
🐛 Why Disney Retired It’s Tough to Be a Bug!
If you’ve been visiting Animal Kingdom for years, you probably remember It’s Tough to Be a Bug!—the 3D show tucked inside the roots of the Tree of Life. It was an opening-day attraction in 1998, and for a while it was a quirky little must-do.

For some families, it became a nostalgic Animal Kingdom tradition, with lots of laughs and those “core memory” moments that only Disney can deliver. But for others, it was simply too intense. Between the giant animatronic spiders dropping from the ceiling and that infamous “wasp sting” jab in the back of your seat, it delivered more screams than giggles. Our eldest daughter Lyn was terrified when she saw it as a kid, and honestly? It’s never been a family staple for us. Many kids (and quite a few bug-phobic adults!) had the same “nope, never again” reaction.
As the park grew with big-ticket draws like Expedition Everest and Pandora – The World of Avatar, fewer people wandered back toward the entrance of the Tree of Life Theater. For first-time visitors, it became easy to miss altogether. Attendance slowly dwindled, and after nearly 27 years, Disney decided it was time for a refresh.
Now, instead of creepy crawlies, guests will find heart, humor, and characters from one of Disney’s most beloved modern franchises.
🎬 A Quick Look Back at the First Zootopia
When Zootopia premiered in 2016, it was an instant hit—grossing over $1 billion worldwide and snagging the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
The story follows Judy Hopps, the first bunny police officer in Zootopia, as she reluctantly teams up with sly fox Nick Wilde to crack a big case. The film struck a chord with audiences because it wasn’t just cute and funny—it cleverly explored themes of prejudice, teamwork, and inclusion, all while showing off the wildly imaginative “biomes” of the city.
Those biomes (tiny Rodentia, icy Tundratown, tropical Rainforest District) are tailor-made for theme park storytelling, which is why fans have been dreaming of a Zootopia presence in the parks ever since.
🎥 What We Know About Zootopia 2
The timing of this new attraction couldn’t be better. Just a few weeks after the show opens, Disney will release Zootopia 2 on November 26, 2025.
Here’s what’s on the record so far:
Judy & Nick return — Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman are back as our favorite bunny-and-fox duo.
New settings — Expect to see neighborhoods and biomes that weren’t part of the first film.
Familiar humor — Disney promises the same mix of buddy-cop comedy and heartfelt storytelling.
Big themes — Early hints suggest a focus on leadership, responsibility, and how communities can work… well, “better zoogether.”
🧚♀️ Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Disney loves to sneak Easter eggs into attractions. Keep your eyes peeled—this new show might drop hints about Zootopia 2 before the movie even hits theaters.

🐾 Sneak Peeks and Fun Extras
Here’s a taste of what’s already rolling out ahead of opening day:
Character Favorites: Judy, Nick, Clawhauser, Flash, and Gazelle are expected to make appearances in the show.
Collectible Medallions: Limited-edition medallions featuring Judy, Nick, Clawhauser, and a special Zoogether Day design are already on sale at Animal Kingdom ($6 each or four for $20).
Fresh Visuals: Concept art teases dynamic lighting, colorful sets, and scene changes that jump between Zootopia’s diverse districts.
Special Previews Coming Soon: Disney has hinted that Cast Members, Annual Passholders, and Disney Vacation Club Members will get sneak peeks later this fall. Stay tuned!
🤝 Meet Judy & Nick in Person
As if the show wasn’t enough, Disney is also introducing a brand-new Zoogether Day Gathering Spot on Discovery Island where you can meet Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. The duo will be sporting updated looks inspired by Zootopia 2, and yes—they’ll be ready for hugs and paw-shakes.
🧚♀️ Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Character schedules in Animal Kingdom can shift throughout the day. Use the My Disney Experience app to time your meet & greet around your theater showtimes so you can make the most of your visit. We’ll be updating our Animal Kingdom character map as soon as Disney releases those details. Make sure to bookmark that post for easy access.

🏞️ What This Means for Animal Kingdom
Animal Kingdom has always walked a careful line between big thrills (Expedition Everest, Flight of Passage) and softer experiences like shows, animal encounters, and play spaces. Zootopia: Better Zoogether! arrives at just the right time to help keep that balance strong.
Right now, Disney is in the middle of a major park transformation. The Dinosaur area is being phased out to make way for the brand-new Tropical Americas land, which will eventually bring fresh rides and experiences inspired by the cultures, wildlife, and stories of Central and South America. But in the meantime, family-friendly staples like TriceraTop Spin, Donald’s Dino-Bash, and the Boneyard play area have closed their doors.
That means there are fewer “little kid” activities in the park at the moment. By introducing Zootopia: Better Zoogether!, Disney is filling an important gap—giving families with children a fun, lighthearted attraction to enjoy together while they wait for the Tropical Americas expansion to come to life.

And let’s not forget: this is also the biggest entertainment refresh since Pandora – The World of Avatar opened in 2017. While it’s not a full land expansion, it’s still a meaningful upgrade to one of Animal Kingdom’s most iconic spaces, and a signal that more change (and more family-friendly fun) is on the horizon.

✨ Final Thoughts
For our family, It’s Tough to Be a Bug! was always more “trauma and giggles” than tradition—Lyn still remembers that wasp sting seat poke a little too vividly! But we know plenty of Disney fans who will forever cherish the memories they made under the Tree of Life with Flik and friends. That’s the beauty of Disney—what’s terrifying for one kid can be a treasured memory for another.
Now, with Zootopia: Better Zoogether! stepping in, it feels like Animal Kingdom is turning a page to something fresh, fun, and a whole lot more family-friendly. Judy, Nick, and the gang bring the perfect mix of humor, music, and heart that makes it easy to imagine this show becoming a new “don’t miss” tradition.
🧚♀️ Pixie Dust Pro Tip: Mark your calendar now! With the show debuting just weeks before Zootopia 2 hits theaters (November 26, 2025), this is going to be a hot ticket stop at Animal Kingdom during the holiday season. Plan to catch an early showtime to beat the crowds.
👉 What about you? Are you ready to hop into this brand-new adventure, or will you quietly miss the buggy chaos of the old show?
