🎥 Disney Movie Magic Is Back
Guess who just showed up back on the schedule? Disney Movie Magic! This 10-minute projection show transforms the Chinese Theatre with scenes from Disney’s live-action films — think Marvel heroes, Lucasfilm adventures, and a sweeping celebration of Disney’s movie legacy outside the world of animation.
It disappeared from the entertainment calendar for months, leaving fans wondering if it was gone for good. But as of this September, it’s officially back! If you’ve never seen it, consider it a mini love letter to Disney’s blockbuster movies projected right in the heart of Hollywood Studios.

Projection shows are now a Disney staple, but they actually go back to the 1990s with Fantasmic!— which used giant water screens as its “canvas.” The first true castle projection show came in 2011 with The Magic, The Memories, and You at Magic Kingdom. Suddenly, Cinderella Castle could transform into anything — from Rapunzel’s tower to a rocket ship. Since then, projections have taken over Disney parks worldwide, from Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom to Tree of Life Awakenings at Animal Kingdom. That’s why the return of Disney Movie Magic feels bigger than just one show coming back — it’s part of a Disney tradition of turning park icons into storytelling canvases.

🎬 Wonderful World of Animation
Following Disney Movie Magic is Wonderful World of Animation, a 12-minute tribute to 90+ years of Disney and Pixar animation. It starts with Mickey himself, then takes you on a whirlwind journey through classic films, modern hits, villains, heroes, and heartwarming friendships.
Together, these two projection shows feel like a double feature — live-action thrills first, then animated nostalgia to close it out.
🌟 Fantasmic! Time Changes
The big headliner, of course, is still Fantasmic! — Hollywood Studios’ 29-minute nighttime spectacular where Sorcerer Mickey takes on Disney villains in a battle of good versus evil.
Here’s the update: starting September 18, 2025, Fantasmic! times are shifting. Instead of 8:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on select nights, showings will now run at 8:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m..
Why it matters? If you want to catch all three shows, you’ll need to plan your evening carefully. We suggest anchoring your night around Fantasmic! and then fitting in the two projection shows either before or after.
🧚♀️ Pixie Dust Pro Tip: If there are two Fantasmic! showings, the later one is usually less crowded — leaving you more room to enjoy the projection shows first.

🌌 We Still Miss Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular
As thrilled as we are about Disney Movie Magic’s return, we can’t help but wish Disney would also bring back Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular. That fireworks and projection show was one of the most fun, immersive nighttime experiences that has been found at Hollywood Studios - complete with lasers, pyrotechnics, and John Williams’ soaring score.
Sadly, it looks like it’s been fully retired, but a Pixie Dust crew can still dream, right?
