Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Bakso the Sumatran tiger just turned one year old! Born in September 2024 to parents Sohni and Conrad, Bakso made his public debut on the Maharajah Jungle Trek with his mom earlier this year and quickly became a fan favorite.

At just one year old, he already weighs in at over 140 pounds — and to celebrate, his keepers made him a special “birthday cake” built from some of his favorite treats: goat’s milk, ice, and meaty elements. 🥩🍰 He’s been so popular that at one point, Disney even had to adjust Maharajah Jungle Trek operations to help manage guest crowds eager to catch a glimpse of him.

His birth is especially meaningful, as Bakso is the first Sumatran tiger cub born at Animal Kingdom in seven years. With fewer than 600 Sumatran tigers left in the wild, every cub represents hope for the future of this critically endangered species. Through the Disney Conservation Fund, more than $4.5 million has been contributed to tiger conservation efforts worldwide.

We’ve loved checking on him every time we visit Animal Kingdom, watching his antics and seeing how much he’s grown. Kim, our resident cat lover, particularly adores him — it’s become one of the highlights of our family’s visits. 💛
🧚♀️ Pixie Dust Pro Tip: For your best chance to spot Bakso, stroll the Maharajah Jungle Trek early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the tigers are most active.
